SPIRAL FORMS
In developing this piece, I began exploring spirals that occur in nature particularly those found in seashells. One of the shapes that I used is also similar to the early stage of a developing embryo. To contrast this organic form, I introduced a shape on the other side of the sculpture that was not natural and had sharp edges. I experimented by building up a geometric figure that was curved but also had flat surfaces, like a rotary dial phone receiver from the 1960s. Opposing this shape I chose a fuller shape similar to that found in a kidney bean.
