AGONY
This is my first abstract sculpture originally made as a small ceramic figure. It is one of my largest sculptures. When I started making the piece, I was receiving letters from a Papua New Guinean friend who wrote of the agony of being married to a man who beat her. In a small way, it influenced this work. The sculpture is of a seated female figure wanting to stand. The concave surfaces of her eyes are mirrored by a large curved depression below her collarbone.
